ICYMI: New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy Makes Case for New Jersey's Innovation Economy; First Lady Tammy Murphy Visits Magic Bus NGO and SNDT Women's University

MUMBAI, INDIA – Governor Murphy and the New Jersey delegation spent the day in Mumbai, where Governor Murphy delivered the keynote at CFO Engage, India’s premier finance gathering. He also addressed the Fintech community at an event hosted by TiE Mumbai. First Lady Tammy Murphy visited the Magic Bus, an NGO that supports children and adolescents, and delivered a speech on women’s empowerment at SNDT Women’s University, the first women’s university in India.

Speaking to more than 200 C-level executives, Governor Murphy delivered the keynote at CFO Engage – a two-day conference in Mumbai, India’s premier finance gathering. “I share Prime Minister Modi’s priority of economic growth that lifts entire communities, that further develops India’s economy, and allows it to sustain the growth of a strong and vibrant Indian middle class. This can be a true partnership, the two largest democracies in the world, working together, at both the federal and state levels, on issues that span the entire economic spectrum.” Governor Murphy called on all the executives present to join him as a partner in building a strong and innovative future on both sides of the world.

Governor Murphy Makes Case for New Jersey’s Innovation Economy to Fintech Companies & New Jersey University Signs Partnership with TiE Mumbai

Governor Murphy pitched New Jersey to the Fintech sector at an event hosted by TiE Mumbai, making the case for New Jersey’s innovation economy. “No doubt, you’ve all heard of California’s Silicon Valley. But, before there was Silicon Valley, there was New Jersey,” said Governor Murphy. “Innovation and risk-taking are in our DNA. Discovery is in our DNA. Taking an idea and commercializing it into a world-changing business is deep in our DNA.” TiEGlobal, founded in Silicon Valley in 1992, is a non-profit organization for entrepreneurs in all industries, at all stages. First Lady Tammy Murphy Highlights Gender Equality through Women Empowerment

First Lady Tammy Murphy visited SNDT Women’s University, the first women’s university in India,  as well as in South Asia, where she made a speech on “Gender Equality through Women Empowerment.” The First Lady also witnessed the MOU signing between SNDT University and Rutgers University, a collaboration in the areas of food science and nutrition and food certification for businesses. Rutgers will also mentor SNDT to assist them with the creation of a new incubator.

First Lady Tammy Murphy visited the Magic Bus, a successful NGO which works with children and young people, taking them on a journey from childhood to livelihood. Magic Bus has transformed the lives of one million children and young people, helping them move out of poverty. The First Lady met with adolescents, who shared their experiences and how the Magic Bus has transformed their lives. “I think the students and young adults speak volumes and represent this program so well. Magic Bus is a vital NGO. What you are doing is super important in breaking the chain of poverty,” said First Lady Tammy Murphy.
