Statement from Governor Murphy on the 2nd Anniversary of the War in Ukraine

02/24/2024

"On the second anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s unjust and unprovoked war, our support for the brave people of Ukraine remains unwavering.

"We mourn the tens of thousands of Ukrainians who have been killed — and the many thousands more who have been injured, displaced, and traumatized by Russian forces. And we continue to stand in solidarity with every member of New Jersey’s Ukrainian American community, particularly those who have lost friends or loved ones in the wake of Russia’s invasion. With the recent death of Alexei Navalny, and the ongoing war crimes being committed against Ukrainian civilians, this much is clear: Putin’s Tsarist delusions and barbarism know no bounds. Such brutality must be met with unwavering resistance.

"In that spirit, I am calling on Congress to pass the humanitarian and military aid package for Ukraine requested by President Biden without delay. If our nation fails to support the people of Ukraine at this perilous hour, the repercussions — for the entire free world — will be disastrous. Our nation’s allies, as well as our adversaries, are watching. And here in New Jersey, we will continue standing with Ukraine as long as it takes.

"May God be with the free people of Ukraine."
